Mount Archer project shared at GECon 2005

How far would you like to be able to see from the top of Mount Archer?.
If the Sunrise Rotary Club and CQU final-year student Naomi Schick have their way, you will be able to see for a full 360-degrees.
As her final-year project, Naomi, a Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op) student at CQU was commissioned by the Sunrise Rotary Club to do some preliminary drawings and designs for a 15-metre high observation tower on top of Mount Archer.
“We took into consideration cost, ease of construction and environmental issues,” Ms Schick explained, “and the construction method chosen was a steel and timber model. Steel is very durable and combined with the durability of a Jarrah timber observation deck and stairway, the whole structure will be very stable and durable.”.
Naomi said the steel construction on a concrete base was the most environmentally friendly method to use in what is an environmental park.
Construction of any type of observation platform is a long way off as cost, environmental and design issues are all yet to be finalised.
