Public liability crisis averted for CQ Multicultural Fair

Organisers of the Central Queensland Multicultural Fair have secured public liability insurance for the annual event that is expected draw thirty-thousand people to the Central Queensland University (CQU) Rockhampton Campus Sunday 11 August.

“We’re absolutely covered – no question about it,” said CQU’s Gina Yarrow, who is coordinating production of the Fair in association with ABC Capricornia and support from The Morning Bulletin.

It’s not hanging over us. With seven weeks to go, preparations are in full swing! The show does indeed go on.” The potential crisis was resolved after two months of negotiations among the university, its broker and leading insurers. A spokesman credits the university’s strong relationship with its provider, AON Corporate Risk Services Australia. “We told them early-on what our needs were and they worked closely with us to find a creative solution,” he said.

The insurance does not cover businesses that supply or provide amusement rides or sideshow equipment. Those owners and operators will have to submit their own certificates of insurance to the university confirming the existence of insurance.

More than 130 food, clothing and crafts vendors are expected to display at the Fair, and there is still space available. Anyone who is interested in participating in the Fair can contact Gina Yarrow on 4923 2507 or Priscilla Crighton on 4923 2506 for further information.

This year, the Year of the Outback, organizers are focusing on contributions immigrants have made to the settlement and development of rural and regional Australia.
