Central Queensland University marketing graduate Tracey Sweeney believes her CQU degree could give her an edge over her competitors in the upcoming Miss World pageant.

Tracey, 21, is among 20 Miss World Australia finalists who will take centre stage next week to find out who will represent the nation in the Ukraine later in the year.

Her CQU studies already have contributed to her success in the world of media advertising, but also will play a part in this different challenge.

"In completing my Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree at CQU a number of doors have opened for me.  I was first employed at The Morning Bulletin as a junior administrator and quickly advanced up to the Senior Advertising Executive. That not only allowed me to be in control of the marketing concepts of major clients, but also gave me experience in managing the Revive Lifestyle Magazine that I was promoted to take charge of," explains Tracey.

"After 2 years of experience in press, I was offered a job to take over one of the major client lists in the State at Southern Cross Ten where I still work.

"Being a student at CQU gave me the confidence as well as the know-how to advance my career to a place that I never thought possible at the age of 21.

"I now am taking on a different challenge in my duties as Queensland's representative at the Miss World Australia finals, for which I believe my CQU degree will again help me in giving me an edge over my fellow Miss World competitors."

Tracey was approached by the Miss World Australia organisation after being showcased on a few Australian modeling websites.

She hopes to raise $7000 for charities such as the National Breast Cancer Foundation during her Miss World campaign.
