Students on the bridge as science flows

Central Queensland University’s 2003 students are getting ready to hit campuses all over Australia.

At CQU Bundaberg some students were keen to brush up on their biology and chemistry information before their programs begin in a few weeks time.

The course was first offered 12 years ago after a survey of CQU Introductory Science students identified the need for a preparatory course. Since its initiation it has proven highly successful with the opportunity to introduce new students to tertiary study in a supportive and non-threatening environment.

Bundaberg Central Queensland University’s Science Coordinator Desirae Kirby said the course was designed for any students enrolling in either health or human movement science bachelor degree courses who may not have completed Year 12 biology or chemistry and also for mature aged entrants who may not have studied science for many years.

“Ultimately the course aims to ensure the 2003 students will be able to undertake the first year unit Introductory Science with confidence. Students get to cover some basic biology and chemistry which is necessary for the compulsory foundation which all health science students will be doing in their first term,” Ms Kirby said.

“The bridging course does as the name suggests it forms a link to allow students to understand course information with the basic ground knowledge. Current students like past bridging course students will no doubt find the course very helpful.
