The annual STEPS (Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies) graduation at Central Queensland University (CQU) in Rockhampton ended with a surprise marriage proposal, giving further reason to celebrate.

As the graduation ceremony ended, Wayne Sichter addressed the audience, went down on his knees holding a jewel box in his hand and proposed to the love of his life, Kelly Thomas, who is also a student.

Wayne's proposal to Kelly in front of 250 spectators was accepted and the pair kissed, leaving hardly a dry eye in the theatre.

The pair met the first day of the STEPS course and just 13 weeks later became engaged at their graduation ceremony.

As well as planning a wedding, Wayne intends on studying a Bachelor of Engineering degree, while Kelly plans on studying for a Bachelor of Human Movement.
