Melbourne graduation speaker Professor Paul Rodan recently reminded graduates they were likely to face several career changes and that lifelong learning was the best way to secure success.
A total of 378 graduates attended CQU's Melbourne International Campus ceremony recently (September 4).
The day marked an important milestone in their educational journey. The graduating students came from over 25 countries including Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Colombia, India, China, Nigeria, Mexico and Czechoslovakia.
The graduation ceremony was held in the Palladium Ballroom of Crown Towers and attracted industry representatives along with staff, family and friends of the graduates.
Also attending were Acting Chancellor Jim Tolhurst, Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard and Professor Gus Geursen, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean for the Faculty of Business and Informatics.
The guest speaker was Professor Paul Rodan, Director, Academic Policy and Research for the Australian International Campuses of Central Queensland University.
He referred to the reality that graduates are likely to have a few career changes in their working life and encouraged them to make learning a lifelong process.
Professor Rodan, who was also guest speaker at the CQU Brisbane graduation on September 5, took the graduates on his own career journey outlining his major career signposts.
Speaking on behalf of the students, the State Director's award winner Tum Tum Ravi Prakash Kumar referred to the words of Nelson Mandela, saying "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world".
The State Director's Award for Leadership recognises outstanding academic achievement, as well as contributions to the community, the capacity to act as mentor to others, the ability to respond to challenges and a commitment to cultural diversity.
