Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Conference focuses on lifelong learning 

Central Queensland University will host its third international conference on lifelong learning on June 13 to 16 this year.

Lifelong Learning Conference 2004 will be held at Rydges Capricorn Resort at Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast, Queensland.

The conference will explore a number of themes related to lifelong learning including lifelong learning communities, access and equity, information literacy and global, national and state perspective. Delegates and presenters from all over the world are expected to present and attend.

The conference has attracted an international field of speakers including keynote speakers independent research consultant in education from Dublin Dr Mairin Kenny, Director of Teaching from QUT’s Faculty of Information Technology, Associate Professor Christine Bruce, Executive Director of Adult Learning Australia, Francesca Beddie, Director of the National Center for Developmental Education, North Carolina, Dr Hunter R. Boylan and senior lecturer from UNE, Dr Ralph Catts.

Dr Kenny has research interests in marginalised people, Associate Professor Bruce is internationally recognised for her work in information literacy, and Dr Catts has research interests in program evaluation and generic skills in adult and workplace learning.

Coordinator for the conference Graham Black said the conference promised to bring a richness and diversity of academics and practitioners to Central Queensland and also provided CQU with an opportunity to showcase its activities in lifelong learning at an international conference.
