Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence to Professional Staff

The Moodle Implementation Team was responsible for leading a significant project within the University in 2010.  Moodle is CQUniversity's new learning management system and the Team has played a major part in the successful introduction and operation of this system.  This Project represents a substantial innovation in one of the most important core business activities of the University and it is clear that the effective engagement of staff within the Moodle Implementation Team has led to significant innovations and improvements in practices, procedures and systems across our courses and programs.

Working with staff across the University, team members fully supported the transition process from the previous unsustainable dual learning management system to the current state where Moodle is now the sole learning management platform, with around 95% of courses for Term 2, 2010 now converted to a Moodle delivery website.  They worked tirelessly to deliver an excellent level of service to all stakeholders, with the clear goal of enhancing the online learning experience for students.

The Moodle Project represents a substantial innovation in one of the most important core business activities of the University and it is clear that the effective engagement of staff within the Implementation Team has led to significant innovations and improvements in practices, procedures and systems across courses and programs.  This is largely due to the exceptional communication activities used by the Team to ensure that staff from all areas of the University were well-informed and supported throughout the implementation process. Through a variety of approaches including workshops, seminars, discussion forums, newsletters and online support, they facilitated the smooth deployment of the new system, whilst consistently demonstrated an outstanding level of performance.  They adopted and maintained a positive approach in response to ongoing issues and new developments and whilst their ingenuity and talents were tested many times, they developed solutions to issues and demonstrated an ability to effectively respond to the needs and requirements of stakeholders, bringing all additional tasks to a suitable conclusion.

Throughout the duration of the Project the Team exhibited a strong and unwavering commitment to positive outcomes and their work, in partnership with the academic staff, is an exemplar of best practice in engaging with stakeholders.  Their professional and disciplined approach to the principles of project management resulted in a quality outcome for the University on a project that is widely regarded by staff across the University as extremely successful.

It is for these reasons that the Moodle Implementation Team of Jeff Santamaria, Kendell Davies, David Binney, Sarah Byrne, Marie Foreman, Denyse Hill, Luke Parsons, Mark Slingo and Derek Jones are worthy and deserving recipients of a 2010 Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence to Professional Staff.
