Bundaberg students give Aviation a test flight

Two Bundaberg students recently spent a week under the wing of CQUniversity's Head of Aviation Ron Bishop.

Emma Cherry and Jonathan Ward, Bundaberg Christian College students, took part in a work experience program with Mr Bishop, learning about the aviation industry and flight training in Bundaberg.

"I felt it was important to expose them to all of Bundaberg's aviation industry, enabling them to make an informed decision on what area of aviation to pursue," Mr Bishop said.

Both students spent time at Leisure Build aircraft, the company that manufactures Jabiru aircraft, learning how the aircraft are built and the processes required to make one of the most successful small aircraft in Australia.

They also spent a day at MicroAir Avionics with Phil Ainsworth, getting instruction on the latest developments in radio and avionics for small manned and unmanned aircraft.

Kingshott Aviation's David Kingshott taught them the maintenance side of the aircraft industry and what's involved in keeping recreational and general aviation aircraft maintained and ready for flight.

Wayne from Ask2Fly Flight School explained all that was required to become a commercial pilot and the various careers for pilots.

Emma was impressed with the scope of CQUniversity's aviation program.

"I really liked all the businesses we visited.  I can't wait to start my degree in Aviation. It was really great to meet all the people involved in aviation here," she said.

"Mr Bishop gave a lot of his time to make sure we got to see all that Bundaberg has to offer in Aviation. It was a great week and I learned a lot."
