"I love event management which I have been doing in the community for the past 4 and a half years on a voluntary basis," he said.

Mr Hatton completed his first year and core subjects at the Bundaberg Campus.

"It was in my first term at CQU studying Introduction to Marketing with a fantastic marketing Lecturer Anne Braund that developed my interest in marketing, which led me to change my degree to an advanced level marketing major.

"My goal at university was to finish my Bachelor degree before I turned 20. In order to achieve this I undertook extra courses during the spring-summer semester.

"As the first year ended and I entered into FLEX study, things became increasingly harder with a new full-time position working.

"It was only though the online support available and support of some fantastic lecturers that I was able to press through.

"There were so many great lecturers but specifically I have to thank Jennifer O'Loughlin, whose encouragement and support enabled me to succeed, and also to Jim Callan who took me on for my final Business Project that enabled me to complete my degree and achieve my goal.

"The support of staff like these help shape the future of the students at CQU and I can now say that thanks to CQU and its staff I was able to leave university and commence full-time work within one week of graduating.

"I hear CQU advertising 'be what you want to be' and I can honestly say that CQU delivered on this. Thank you to all the people in my journey who have helped me reach my goal and make me what I am today."
