Rocky kids get active during Christmas break

About 65 children from the region have been participating in the annual Active Kids Sporting and Recreation Camp at CQU Rockhampton this week.

Active Kids Rockhampton has been developed by CQU’s School of Health & Human Performance to give boys and girls aged 9 – 13 plenty to do after the Christmas excitement has died down.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, most camps that are sports-based target only sporty kids, and alarmingly, the amount of time primary aged kids participate in physical activity is decreasing dramatically. Active Kids Rockhampton is run over 5 days and is a day camp aimed at active and non-active kids, offering a variety of sporting and recreational activities.

CQU students have played a major role in Active Kids, with student PE teachers and Industry Practicum students from the School of Health & Human Performance forming the Project Team and Camp Captains for the Camp.
