Students urged to explore three-day CQU Science and Technology event

Preparations are underway for this year's ever-popular Siemens Science Experience to be held at Central Queensland University Mackay.
The three-day event attracted 34 students from Ayr, Capella and the Mackay district in January this year.
Environmental Science lecturer and event co-ordinator Dr Judith Wake urged prospective Year 10 students to take part in the hands-on activities that related to Arts, Health and Sciences, Informatics and Communication and Engineering faculties.
“We’ve planned a diverse range of interactive activities that are designed to allow the students to get a taste for a variety of disciplines,” she said.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to explore various areas of science and technology and should allow students to make informed decisions about their career or high school study options.” Activities for the event include the identification of metals by flame photometry and atomic absorption spectrophotometry, analysing the health and distribution of mangroves, investigating freshwater habitat, exploring the science of fitness and physiology of the heart and lungs, nursing hygiene and solving an engineering problem. The event runs from January 20-22, with nominations still being accepted until December 19. For further details please phone Vivien Clift on 4940 7532.
