Central Queensland University acquired full ownership last week of international education management company, C_Management Services (CMS), from its joint venture partner Sydney-based Global Campus Management (GCM).

"We have had an incredibly successful relationship.

Central Queensland University has pledged to establish the Mackay campus as its hub for Mining Education and Research by the middle of this year.

This means mining degrees and programs will be delivered from CQU Mackay and the campus will be the focal point for mining-related research developments.

Some young men would be reluctant to be in the same university class as their mother, let alone also working alongside them.

Some would worry about the cramping of their style.

Rockhampton people who are interested in getting started with the Chinese Mandarin language are encouraged to get involved with a new 12-week conversational language course at Central Queensland University.

Classes will be offered from March onwards, from 6pm-8pm on Tuesday nights.

Two Rockhampton-based researchers will design, build and test-run their own thermo-chemical conversion reactor to produce valuable bio-oil from green wastes left at council dumps.

Whereas burning these wastes would only produce energy, a pyrolysis reactor (extreme heat in a oxygen-free chamber) has the potential to produce bio-oils as well as potentially useful gases and waste solids.
