Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The rain did not dampen the spirit of Hon Dr Brendan Nelson, Federal Minister for Education, Science & Training and Paul Neville, Federal Member for Hinkler when they visited CQU Bundaberg last Monday.

    The visitors were at the campus for just over an hour and were joined by Professor Hancock and Professor Jack Wood.

  • CQU nurses fill bulk of hospital places

    Fourteen of the 20 new registered nurses to start duty at Rockhampton Hospital this week were educated at CQU, according to a report in The Morning Bulletin.

    The newspaper quotes district director of nursing Lex Oliver as saying the new nurses are a welcome addition to the district's health service.

  • Academic Gowns Reach New 'Heights'

    Central Queensland University Corporate Events Manager Gina Yarrow presented Heights College Headmaster’s Assistant Andrew Johnson and students with 100 blue graduation gowns this week.

    The gowns are former CIAE (Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education) academic dress, which are superseded by the current university standard black gowns.

    Central Queensland University is inviting educators and trainers in the region to its 2004 Teaching and Learning Showcase to be held on February 16 to 20.

    Although staged on-campus at CQU Rockhampton, the Showcase will be videoconferenced to the Bundaberg, Gladstone, Emerald and Mackay campuses.

    Professor John Rickard, Vice Chancellor and President of Southern Cross University, has been appointed to succeed Professor Glenice Hancock who retires later this year as Vice Chancellor and President of Central Queensland University (CQU).

    Professor Hancock has been with CQU since 1997 as Deputy Vice Chancellor and 2001 as Vice Chancellor and President.
