Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Cultures on different page when it comes to 'informed consent'

    A research study has shown a considerable cultural difference between the beliefs of traditional Aboriginal and Western people in regards to ‘informed consent' for medical procedures.

    Senior Research Fellow with the International Program of Psycho-Social Health Research (a research body of CQUniversity Australia) Dr Pam Mcgrath said the differing perspectives and cultural practices translate into major concerns that impact on the practice of obtaining consent for medical procedures.

    That is according to Heather Nancarrow*, who said the research explored correlations between intimate partner abuse and a range of factors, including characteristics of the mining industry.

  • Mackay nurses expand orthopaedic knowledge

    Local nurses and other multidisciplinary health professionals had an opportunity to attend a one-day foundational orthopaedic workshop, held recently at CQUniversity Mackay.

    The workshop was coordinated to increase multidisciplinary knowledge assessment and care of orthopaedic patients.
