Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Australian has input into definition of performing arts research

    Dr Kevin Purcell is Australia's official voting delegate to a world commission tasked with defining the parameters of research in relation to performing arts practice.

    The Central Queensland University academic will travel to Finland in June to attend a range of key events arranged by OISTAT (the International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians).

  • Popular jazz singer and drummer add gloss to Mackay concert

    Popular Sydney-based jazz singer and recording artist Kristin Berardi will join jazz drummer Paul Hudson, a renowned Brisbane-based performer and session recording artist, as featured artists for this year's first big night of jazz music in Mackay on Friday, May 23 (from 8pm).

    The Conversations in Improvisation concert hosted by the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music will also be a welcome back for Kristin, who studied at the Con in Mackay when she was a fledgling performer and has since performed at international jazz events and released CDs featuring her own compositions.

  • Relay prompts rainbow of hope on campus

    The Relay for Life event held at CQU Rockhampton over the weekend prompted a rainbow of hope, with a record 116 teams and funds raised to date topping $202,000.

    Relay for Life is a key fundraiser for The Cancer Council Queensland, involving an overnight teams relay, a survivor's walk and a touching candle ceremony to honour loved ones.

  • International campuses now part of wireless network

    The CQU Roam Wireless Network has now been rolled out across the Australian international campuses in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney.

    This enables staff and students to access network resources throughout the campus, wherever it happens to be convenient to work or check messages.
