Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    While many of us may be familiar with triathlons, a number of enigmatic Bundaberg high school students are more at home with volumetric and conical flasks, burettes and pipettes, phenolphthalein indicator solution, rubber stoppers and unknown chemical samples - stuff used in titrations.

    Titrations are all about absolute precision in measuring, separating and analysing constituent chemicals from sometimes unknown samples.

    A team of students who undertook CQU's Collaborative Multimedia Project course have recently completed a new web site for Old Government House, NSW.

    The 'Trust Us' team comprised 5 students, all studying by flex mode from various parts of Queensland: Amy Barrie (Cranbrook), Stacey Critchell (Carrara), Cassandra Kowaltzke (Brisbane), Daniel Porter (Yeppoon) and Judith Woodhouse (Rothwell).

    Central Queensland University has embarked on a project that looks at embracing 3D technologies used in modern gaming and virtual experiences for use in state-of-the-art university teaching.

    CQU, in collaboration with the University of Southern Queensland, has received a Carrick grant for the project titled: Seamless integration of Web3D technologies with university curricula to engage the changing student cohort.
