Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Erica Todd has spent several vacations during her undergraduate years as a volunteer in marine turtle research and also hopes to continue to help with Greening Australia projects with freshwater turtles.

    Some of her volunteer work to date has been aimed at preventing predators accessing nests of the endangered Fitzroy River Turtle.

    CQUniversity researcher Dr Mitch Duncan has been named Best New Investigator at the 2008 ASICS Conference of Science and Medicine in Sport.

    Dr Duncan's paper on physical activity in Queensland and its relationship with geographic location and perceptions of the environment won the award in the Health Promotion category at the Conference hosted by Sports Medicine Australia.

    That is according to Dr Barbara Webster, whose latest monograph entitled Working towards a sustainable future: a history of the Fitzroy Basin Association Incorporated is being launched this week (Friday Oct 24).

    Rockhampton rail researchers Mark Hayman and Chris Bosomworth did not hesitate when faced with the opportunity to work in a picturesque alpine region of Italy, near Turin, for CQUniversity-based company Rail Innovation Australia.

    Mark and Chris have already spent 5 weeks enjoying the Italian summer, including sightseeing in Rome, a little excursion into the French alps and touring around the local villages.
