Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU Melbourne International Campus staff recently welcomed more than 60 new students who participated in a wide variety of activities throughout the Term 3 Orientation Day program.

    In addition to the usual information sessions delivered by key staff across campus, several more interactive sessions were included.

    Around 50 students and community members have enjoyed a mock trial in Rockhampton featuring some of Australia's leading forensic scientists and local legal experts.

    The case last Friday November 23 was decided by a jury of budding forensic scientists along with CSI-style TV enthusiasts, with a finding of 'not guilty'.

  • Welcome events herald 'new era' for performing arts

    The CQ region can anticipate a 'new era and new dimension' for performing arts at Central Queensland University.

    This was the key message during community events at Mackay and Rockhampton recently (Nov 1-2) to introduce and welcome the University's new Professor and Director of Music & Performing Arts, Dr Kevin Purcell.
