Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Queensland Magnesia is the first industry partner to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Central Queensland University to mark the beginning of the CQU Science Internship Program.

    Professor Elizabeth Taylor, Executive Dean for the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health, and John Malloy, General Manager for QMAG, have signed an agreement which will give students the opportunity to gain valuable work-integrated learning experiences by participating in a structured employment arrangement.

    Central Queensland University officially opened the CQU Bundaberg Library Information Commons last week.

    With around $685,000 spent on renovations, the CQU Bundaberg Library Information Commons has now expanded with the addition of a new training room, more study group areas, colour printing and photocopying, improved staff facilities, new computers and expanded storage facilities.

  • Appointment raises cultural awareness at CQU in Melbourne and Sydney

    Central Queensland University has appointed Dr Martand Joshi, former Honorary Consul of India, as its International Cultural Advisor, based at CQU’s Melbourne and Sydney campuses.

    “Dr Joshi’s experience as a diplomat along with his teaching and studies around the world make him the ideal person to raise cultural awareness among CQU staff and students,” said CQU Melbourne Campus Director Darryl Stewart.

  • 200 graduates join CQU's world-wide alumni

    A total of 200 people donned in gowns and mortar boards became a part of CQU’s ever-increasing, world-wide alumni after attending graduation ceremonies in Rockhampton last weekend.

    Two graduation ceremonies were held at the Rockhampton Baptist Tabernacle in Norman Road with graduates from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education, Faculty of Business and Informatics and Academic Board attending the morning ceremony and graduates from the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health and Academic Board attending the afternoon ceremony.

  • High School students Jammin' to become professional musicians

    Twenty high school students from the Mackay region have been taking part in a new program at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM), observing and participating in a range of classes as though they were professional music students at CQCM.

    The program, suitably named Jammin’ is designed to give the budding musicians an insight into studying music professionally at the Conservatorium.
