Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

More than 19 countries will be represented at CQUniversity Melbourne's graduation ceremony today (September 4).

Officiated by the Chancellor Rennie Fritschy and Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard, the event will see 318 students from countries such as Bangladesh, Chile, China, Vietnam and India, graduate.

The ceremony will be staged at the Palladium Ballroom at Crown Towers, 8 Whiteman Street, Southbank, Melbourne at 2pm.

In recognition of his contribution to CQUniversity, Martand Joshi will be conferred with the University's highest award for recognition of service, the honorary degree of Doctor of the University.

Guest speaker at the event will be Professor Paul Rodan, Director CQUniversity's Intercultural Education Research Institute. Previously, he was the Director, Academic Policy and Research for the Australian International Campuses at CQUniversity and has also held senior academic positions at the Melbourne Campus.

As the inaugural director of the Institute, Professor Rodan hopes to secure a reputation for quality research into various intercultural educational issues, and for the research outcomes to be reflected as appropriate in the University's curriculum and teaching and its service provision.
