Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

State Director Awards presented at graduation 

CQU Melbourne International Campus will acknowledge the academic achievement and leadership potential of 3 of its students at a graduation ceremony today (Thursday).

Victorian State Director Associate Professor Ken Bruce will present Ms Juliana Hakim (Bachelor of Accounting), Mrs Archana (Master of Accounting) and Mr Amit Dhir (Master of Information Systems) with State Director's Awards.

Originally from Indonesia, Juliana also lived in Singapore before commencing her studies in Australia.  Throughout her program at CQUniversity Melbourne, she was noted by staff as a consistently strong and active contributor to class projects.

Her open, engaging personality and willingness to support others ensured Juliana was also popular with her fellow students.

These qualities resulted in her selection as the graduates' representative for today's ceremony.

Juliana now intends to explore career opportunities in accountancy and the banking sector preferably in

Archana achieved consistently excellent academic results and was commended by staff for obtaining the highest campus mark in a difficult theoretical course.

She was also considered a role model, inspiring many others with her hard work and dedication, especially those students from her home country India. 

Despite her significant achievements, Archana modestly attributes her success to the support she gained from teaching staff and her husband in particular. 

Her goals now include completing her CPA qualifications as well as commencing her career as an accountant in Australia.

Amit, from Punjab in India, was admired for his organisational skills and demonstrated ability as a team leader.  

His previous work experience in telecommunications was a great asset and enabled him to offer fellow students invaluable insights regarding the realities of work in this industry sector.  

Amit's discipline and conscientious approach were also an inspiration, motivating other students with his example. 

Staff confirm he has the talent to succeed in management roles and his aim now is to secure a role with a multinational ICT company in Melbourne.
