Published on 24 August, 2009
Hundreds of primary and secondary school children from regional communities will converge on CQUniversity Mackay Campus on Saturday (August 29) for this year's Opti-MINDS Creative Sustainability Challenge.
Opti-MINDS is being held in conjunction with CQUniversity's Mackay Campus Open Day, along with the University's book sale and Scinema film festivities.
There's heaps of fun and festivities planned for all ages during the day, including jumping castles, obstacle courses and much more.
Opti-MINDS participants and their teachers and supporters are coming from as far as Sarina and Clermont in the south, Moranbah in the west and Bowen in the north.
The Mackay event is supported by the Hail Creek Mine Community Development Fund, BHP Billiton, University of Queensland, Latronics and Whitsunday Anglican School.
Winners will represent their region at the State finals in Brisbane over October 17-18.

About Opti-MINDS:
Opti-MINDS is a process of PREVENTION - rather than a damage control; it instils a PROACTIVE mindset of:
- Capability - 'Can Do!'
- Responsibility - 'If not me - then who?'
- Creativity & Innovation; &
- Unashamed EXCELLENCE,
within participants; encouraging them to REALISE their own capacity and responsibility to ‘MAKE the DIFFERENCE' for themselves - and to come from an "IF NOT, WHY NOT?" stance.
