Youthful energy produces future options at QREX

There was plenty of youthful energy involved in finding solutions for our future, during this week's QREX (Queensland Resources Expo) event in Rockhampton...

CQUniversity is a Foundation Sponsor of QREX, so it was fitting that around 50 of our first-year engineering students took part in the Energy for the Future workshop, where they provided technical support for around 80 senior high school students from throughout the CQ region.  The high school students were involved in a 'simulated international energy sales pitch' during the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) event.

Our engineering students were on hand to play the role of ‘consultants' to the teenage ‘company reps', as they spruiked their services.

One of the event organizers, Dr Col Greensill said that participants developed their knowledge about ‘Energy for the Future' options available in a variety of international circumstances.

He said they considered environmental impacts, costs, sustainability, energy mix, financial status, climatic conditions, storage capacities and future demands.

"Each group presented a snapshot of their company capabilities to a number of ‘government representatives' from all over the world - in this case played by industry representatives," Dr Greensill said.  "It was good that the younger students showed confidence in their only-slightly-older ‘consultants'."
