Sporting background draws Katrina to Medical Imaging program

Katrina Smith says a long-term involvement in sport and an interest in treating sporting injuries have led her to pursuing a career in Medical Imaging at CQUniversity Mackay.

"I chose Medical Imaging because it's something I've always found interesting. I liked physics at school and growing up with sport I've always been interested in sports injuries, which is common in radiography."

"The course is great and living on res is really good, especially when it comes to study. It's made me much more independent," Katrina says.

She said the scholarship will allow her to focus more on her studies rather than worry about the financial burden of university costs.

"The scholarship will help so much financially by not having to drive in and out to my classes every day.

"Because of that, it also saves me time and living on campus, away from home makes it so much easier when it comes to studying. No distractions."

Katrina said she was very grateful and appreciative to have received the help through BMC and CQUniversity and was looking forward to beginning her career in the health industry.

"I would like to get a job as radiographer and continue with a post-grad course in medicine to become a radiologist."

Katrina says that, between university commitments, she also enjoys a full social life.

"All of my spare time is taken up with netball, the Valley District Youth Council and my family - three things I'm very passionate about."
