Research students feted as 'inteligencia'

Senior academics, research supervisors and advanced students helped make our commencing research higher degree (RHD) students feel welcome, during their Orientation and Confirmation Week program this week.

Coinciding with our Research Showcase, the RHD Week gave supervisors the chance to support commencing students while also engaging in their own professional development.

The packed program included many 'confirmation of candidature' oral presentations as well as sessions on generic research procedures underpinning the specialised fields of study.

Dean of Graduate Research Associate Professor Lorna Moxham outlined the key messages imparted to students.

"Work closely with your supervisor -  you are a team;  let Office of Research support you in your RHD journey - tell us what is going on;  work hard, be committed and enjoy the learning.  A RHD is very special and you are our inteligencia elite," Lorna said.

Most participants gathered at Rockhampton Campus but sessions were also linked to and from other campuses via videoconference.

Participants included Phd candidate Melanie Nicoloson (An analysis of Perioperative Anxiety in Adults); Masters candidate Comfort Egwurube (The Study of Elder Abuse, Prevalence and Risk Factor in Central Queensland) and Doctor of Education candidate Rob Proffitt-White (The influence of Teacher  Attitudes, Beliefs and Self Motivation on the process of Primary Mathematics Professionals Learning becoming embedded in Daily Practice).
