Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Mr Woodley* will address 139 graduates, including 3 celebrating completion of PhDs, during the ceremony from 5pm Thursday (April 23) at Mackay Entertainment Centre.

Bachelor of Business (Honours) First Class Maria Tyler has been chosen to deliver the graduates' response.

Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard and Deputy Chancellor Charles Ware are officiating at the event.

PhD ‘child's play' for researcher graduating in Mackay

The PhD graduates include:

- Irene Payne, whose thesis was entitled 'Environmental water relations of the koala, Phascolarctos cinereus, and the importance of the microenvironment in tropical habitats';

- Judith Parson, whose thesis was entitled 'Integration of procedure play for children undergoing cystic fibrosis treatment:  A nursing perspective'; and

- Susan Galletly, whose thesis was entitled 'Seeking Ways to Improve Reading-Accuracy Instructions for Australian At-Risk Readers Using Literature Review and Critical Analysis'.
