Teens 'excited' to chat with counterparts in Japan
Published on 05 August, 2010
Forty language students from Rockhampton High and The Cathedral College have chatted live with Japanese teens, using a Skype-equipped computer laboratory on Rockhampton Campus.
According to TCC teacher and CQUniversity graduate Rachele Belz, her Japanese class was buzzing with excitement about the opportunity.
Rachele visited Japan twice during her time as a Bachelor of Learning Management (Japanese) student, including periods of three months and 10 months which enabled immersion in the culture.
She has since taken a group of TCC language students to Japan.
"The current group are very passionate about the Japanese language and culture and love hearing stories about my time spent over there," she said.
The Skype sessions between Australia and Japan are run on a regular basis between university-level students and are opened up to high school students on occasion.
This week's event (August 3) was arranged by CQUniversity and Meikai University, one of our long-standing exchange program partners.
