Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Water treatment system to flush school's sewerage bill

    Greenbank State School, on the outskirts of Brisbane, has introduced an on-site wastewater treatment system developed by a CQU researcher in Rockhampton.

    The KEWT (Kele Effluent and Wastewater Treatment System) system, developed by Ben Kele and commercialised by GBG Project Management Pty Ltd, will treat and reuse the wastewater from over 1000 students and staff at a site cost of $340,000.

    CQU Chancellor Rennie Fritschy and Vice-Chancellor John Rickard recently attended the grand final of the fourth Queensland Cup in Shanghai.

    The Queensland Cup is a joint project between the Queensland Government Trade and Investment Office in Shanghai, the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Queensland Government.

  • Uni of Third Age members see campus 'growing'

    Former CQU staff member Vince Constable led a group of more than 30 University of the Third Age(U3A) members on a tour of CQU Rockhampton on Monday, March 13.

    The guests of the University received some lessons from Plant Sciences’ Nanjappa Ashwath on biodiversity, conservation, restoration and revegetation, and plant tissue culture.

    The University presented their honorary awards during the CQU Rockhampton graduations on March 11.

    CQU performing arts graduate Andrew McDowell is looking forward to a 2-month gig at a Chinese theme park, working 6 days a week and 6 shows a day from September onwards.

    The overseas experience will help with his longer-term goal of getting a good agent and finding regular work in the entertainment industry in either Brisbane or Sydney.

  • CQU commits to reversing Australia's rail signalling shortage

    CQU and Rail CRC, the Cooperative Research Centre for Railway Engineering and Technologies, this week (March 15) signed a momentous 2-year licensing agreement, allowing CQU to continue to offer the Rail CRC’s world-first Postgraduate Diploma in Railway Signalling to rail industry personnel around Australia.

    CQU's Professor Elizabeth Taylor, AO, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health and Chief Executive Officer of Rail CRC, Professor Dudley Roach, signed the agreement, extending CQU’s rights to the program for a further 2 years to 2007.

  • Golden Key chapter climbs standard ladder

    The CQU Chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society has been awarded with the second highest standard level for the 2005 year.

    The Chapter was awarded with a silver level standing highlighting the Chapter’s high level of community involvement, chapter events, education projects and attendance at the International and Asia-Pacific Conference.
