Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU Bundaberg science lecturer Desirae Kirby was thrilled to play host to 31 visiting engineers and chemists from the Burnett Local Group of Engineers Australia and the Southern Institute of Sugar Technologists last Thursday evening.

    Following a welcoming address by Head of Campus Professor Phillip Clift, the guests were treated to a presentation on the construction of the new $5 million academic and research buildings, incorporating a 64-seat teaching laboratory, 2 research laboratories, a sound studio, offices and administration area.

  • Bundaberg students rise to science and engineering challenge

    More than 100 Bundaberg and Rosedale high school students participated in the Bundaberg Region Science and Engineering Challenge 2007 yesterday (June 20) at the Bundaberg Civic Centre.

    The challenge is a set of fun and competitive activities involving the principles of science, engineering and technology and was presented by the University of Newcastle in cooperation with CQU Bundaberg, the University of Southern Queensland, Engineers Australia - Burnett Local Group, the Rotary Club of Bundaberg West, Jaycar Bundaberg and Main Roads Queensland.

    The Centre for Plant and Water Science (CPWS) has been researching the natural sweetener, Stevia rebaudiana, since 1999, when it released a report, funded by the Rural Industries Research and Development Centre, on the opportunities with this natural sweetener for Australia.

  • Partnership paves the way for apprentices

    A partnership agreement between Central Queensland University, the Australian Technical College and Central Queensland Insitute of TAFE in Gladstone has paved the way for a group of young apprentices to study a business course in the Cyril Golding Library at CQU Gladstone.

    The Australian School-based Apprentices are enrolled with the Australian Technical College - Gladstone Region, which is delivering a Certificate II in Business and Information Technology at CQU's state-of-the-art computer lab within the library.
