Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Margaret Culmsee, Manager Equity and Diversity, welcomed CQU's Grievance Contact Officers (GCOs) to their 2007 training session recently.

    The GCOs provide a first point of contact for students and staff who think they may have been subjected to workplace discrimination, sexual harassment or bullying.

    CQU is part-way through sports facility upgrades worth millions of dollars, which will benefit students, staff and the whole regional community.

    CQU's Health and Human Performance Associate Professor Peter Reaburn and CQU's General Manager of Commercial Operations Paul Lancaster have both welcomed the upgrades.

  • Leadership expertise from Kenya to Rockhampton

    The journey from Kenya to Rockhampton has taken some time for Dr Michael Muchiri, having completed his masters at Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia and earning his PHD at the University of New England in Armidale last year.  

    Returning for his graduation ceremony on March 31 was a chance to spread the good news of his latest venture, lecturing for the Faculty of Business and Informatics at Central Queensland University.

  • CQU team in dragon boat festival

    With a clash of paddles and an alarming wobble, the CQU crew commenced their first dragon boat adventure.

    The team, consisting of staff and students, trained and competed at the Melbourne International Dragon Boat Festival at Melbourne Docklands in March.

  • Nursing professor heads line-up at mental health symposium

    Central Queensland University's Professor of Contemporary Nursing Brenda Happell will be the keynote speaker at a mental health symposium at the Gold Coast next month.

    Professor Happell will speak on "the importance and politics of consumer participation" at the Inaugural Autumn Symposium on May 11 coordinated by the Gold Coast Sub Branch of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses in celebration of International Nurses Day and the work of Gold Coast mental health nurses.
