The 2005 Primary Industries Research Centre (PIRC) annual report, recently submitted to the Office of Research, records a total income of $1.8 miillion, graduation of 7 postgraduate students, and publication of 30 refereed journal articles.

The North American Society for Oceanic History (NASOH) has chosen Associate Professor Steve Mullins’ paper on re-ordering the 19th Century western Pacific maritime trade, presented in Honolulu in 2002, for inclusion in a ‘best of the last five years’ cumulative proceedings.
Although the paper already has appeared in the prestigious UK maritime history journal 'The Mariner’s Mirror', NASOH has obtained permission to republish it in the United States.

Fijian student Ashita Sami has spent much of her time at CQU helping others, and now she's landed a job in desktop support.
Ashita grew up in Fiji and started her CQU degree in Suva, before transferring to Rockhampton to build on her independence and to gain experience of a new country and lifestyle.

A new study will explore what life is really like for Queensland's young Muslim people, in a climate where Muslims have sometimes been labelled as terrorists.
Previous studies have shown that Muslim people have been subjected to escalating violence, discrimination, vilification and prejudice in the wake of the World Trade Centre attacks, the Iraq war and the riots at North Cronulla.

Performers from CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music have earned praise for their high standard and professionalism during this month's ABC/CQCM jazz tour, headlined by Vince Jones.
Almost 9000 people attended 8 venues from Hamilton Island to the Gold Coast, during the 9-day tour.

The future of rail research in Australia was on the agenda this week (Thursday) when leaders from the Australian rail industry converged on Rockhampton (CQU's Capricornia College) for a board meeting of Rail CRC, the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Railway Engineering and Technologies.
The leaders included CEO’s and senior managers of the Australasian Railway Association (ARA), QR, Pacific National, RailCorp and Australian Rail Track Corporation.

Central Queensland University has confirmed its commitment to mental health nursing practices and research in regional Queensland by being a major sponsor at a mental health symposium in Yeppoon this weekend.
CQU’s School of Nursing and Health Studies has sponsored The Australian & New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses (ANZCMHN) North Queensland branch’s 8th Annual Tropical Symposium to be held at Rydges in Yeppoon from June 23 to 25.

The inaugural meeting of CQU’s Indigenous Employment Reference Group was held early this month in Rockhampton.
Responsible for developing the University’s Indigenous employment portfolio, Equity and Diversity Officer (Indigenous Services) Natasha Lamb said CQU will be developing strategies to increase the number of Indigenous people working at CQU.
