Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Conservatorium to welcome 'thoroughly modern' Chloe Dallimore

    Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music has welcomed news one of Australian music theatre's leading ladies - Chloe Dallimore - will direct and choreograph Mackay's production of Thoroughly Modern Millie (Aug 14-16).

    CQU's Professor and Director of Music and Performing Arts Kevin Purcell said Dallimore was perfect for the industry mentor role as she was the lead in the Australian professional production of Thoroughly Modern Millie as recently as 2006.

    A new learning partnership is being forged in Gladstone with the signing of an historic memorandum of understanding between Rio Tinto and Central Queensland University (CQU) this week (Monday, April 28).

    The 2 organisations aim to support and enhance the availability of educational pathways through the innovative partnership, signed by Bill Wheatley (General Manager People & Organisation Support (Australasia) Rio Tinto) and Professor John Rickard (Vice-Chancellor & President, CQU).

    CQU will confer the Honorary Award of Companion of the University on former Bundaberg Mayor Kay McDuff* during this week's Bundaberg graduation ceremony, from 6pm on Thursday, May 1 at the Moncrieff Theatre.

    Ms McDuff is also the guest speaker for the ceremony, to be attended by 94 graduates, including a developing author.

    Robyn is mother to 3 girls and has had a diverse career background* - teacher, farmer, communicator - so she has been able to relate to the aspirations of WIST students and to build on previous successes.

  • Property professionals ensure relevance of degree

    Professionals from the property sector and allied industries have joined a liaison committee to ensure the continuing relevance of CQU's Bachelor of Property degree.

    The committee members include valuers, an engineer, a surveyor, a bank representative, a lawyer and real estate agents.
