Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    After refereeing soccer for 11 years including games at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and the Women's World Cup in 2003, Rockhampton's Jacqueline Leleu was again granted one of the most prestigious opportunities in the game - to referee at the Beijing Olympics.

    Researchers from Rockhampton and Newcastle are collaborating to show that clinical educators using realistic masks can provide excellent simulated experiences for students of nursing, medicine and pharmacology.

    Even though mannikins can now include feedback signals, a clinical educator wearing a variety of masks can provide realistic feedback across a range of patient types.

    Now an established member of the Ten Tenors, Steve Sowden attributes his marriage and his current job to contacts made at CQUniversity's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (based at Mackay Campus).

    The former Brisbane student moved to the Conservatorium in Mackay and was able to perform in the brand new theatre complex.

    The Queensland Government has announced that the Queensland Government scholarships award each postgraduate $22,500 over 3 years for full-time research in varied disciplines.
