- Scholarship partnership a first for Uni's Sonography program

CQUniversity has signed a new scholarship partnership with Bundaberg Radiology, providing the first scholarship for Central Queensland's new Sonography program.
Bundaberg Radiology is part of the BR Radiology group, which has radiology practices in both Queensland and New South Wales.

The Queensland branch of the Promoting Excellence Network (PEN) met at CQUniversity Rockhampton campus recently to discuss - among other things - what the future will look like when operations cease for the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) at the end of 2011.
The Australian Government made the decision to discontinue its funding of the ALTC in January 2011, with DEEWR taking over control of various ALTC activities (officially) as of the start of 2012.

An Indigenous Finance Forum was held in Rockhampton this week to encourage Indigenous community members to consider microcredit as an alternative finance approach.
Organiser Kylie Radel said the event at CQUniversity's Community Sports Centre doubled as the launch for a research project aimed at developing an effective, community-supported model of microcredit*.

CQUniversity this week hosted an Australian Collaborative Education Network (ACEN) event and used it to showcase and discuss Work-Integrated Learning initiatives.
Thanks to videoconference, participants from Griffith University, James Cook University, University of the Sunshine Coast and CQUniversity Mackay were able to interact with presenters and audience members at Rockhampton Campus.

The Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association has a dream of providing special hand cycles so people with disabilities, particularly those who rely on wheelchairs, can experience the delights of cycling, while exercising a different range of muscles.
The requirement for specialised engineering means each hand cycle costs around $4000 but that has not deterred supporters of the plan to obtain some for the Capricorn region.

A total of 85 teachers from day care through to high school year levels attended the recent 'Childwise' conference at CQUniversity Bundaberg, featuring keynote speakers Anne-Marie and Gary Ezzo.
University lecturer and event organiser Dr Rosie Thrupp said the event celebrated the production of a new professional learning package for teachers called 'Teachers being Childwise', developed in partnership between CQUniversity's School of Education and Peirson Services with the Ezzos.

CQUniversity has approved almost $200,000 worth of research projects to address issues raised during the recent floods throughout Queensland and elsewhere in Australia.
This special Vice-Chancellor's Engaged Research Initiative has given life to projects ranging from the preparedness of tourism enterprises and the economic impact on transport corridors to reduction of risks caused by horticultural nutrients flowing to the coast.
