Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    With over 113 million children world-wide denied schooling, the United Nations has a huge challenge ahead in meeting its 2015 Millenium Goal of ensuring that all children have the opportunity to complete primary school.

    However, according to Emeritus Professor of Teaching and Learning at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, Dr Fred Lockwood, there is evidence to indicate that progress is being made towards this goal, with children in primary education in developing nations increasing to 88% in the school year 2004/2005 (UNESCO, 2007).

    The report remarks on impacts such as employment effects of 3017 jobs and employment income of $163.

    Organisers from CQU Healthy Communities have arranged a bi-monthly series of discussions for 2008 under the ‘Research Unplugged' banner.

  • Nursing student runs petition for reopening of birthing unit

    Victorian-based CQU nursing student Jasmine Browne has started an online petition in support of residents who are pushing for the reopening of the Rosebud Hospital birthing unit.

    According to The Mornington Peninsula Leader, Jasmine has an overwhelming interest in the return of the maternity ward closed due to a lack of obstetric services.
