Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Dr Erik Hohmann has managed to add a PhD to his qualifications, despite being in demand for his operative skills.

    Dr Hohmann's unit at Rockhampton Base Hospital is recognised as a leader in high-tech surgery for the classic 'popped clavicle' rugby injury and the 'netball knee' anterior cruciate ligament injury.

    Tomorrow (Friday) will be the last day on campus for Marilyn, who has spent the past 17 years in a variety of roles from Director of Counselling to University Change Manager and more recently Manager, Planning and Professional Development.

  • Concerns on overfishing of wobbegong sharks

    Wobbegong shark (Eucrossorhinus dasypogon) numbers could be under threat due to an increase in hand-lining for the species on Australia's east coast, according to CQUniversity's reef researcher Alison Jones.

    Dr Jones said the main predators for these sharks are hand-line fishers.

    Climate change could lead to increases in sea scum blooms in Capricornia, according to a CQUniversity researcher.

    Sea scum or sea sawdust, scientifically known as Trichodesmium, is the blue-green algae that washes up on the beaches and causes that unpleasant ‘fishy' smell during Spring and Summer.
