Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Sci-Fi study helps Tris gain PhD

    CQU Melbourne International Campus staff member Tris Kerslake has gained her PhD thanks to study into 'The Role and Practice of Empire in Science Fiction: Experiments in Imagination'.

    Dr Kerslake, who coordinates the STEP (student employment) program at CQU MIC, investigated the speculative literature of SF's past and future histories while questioning the continuing location of imperialism in contemporary science fiction.

    The aura of Central Queensland’s Neerkol orphanage has moved two emerging Rockhampton artists to capture the emotions of the former residents in a contemporary art exhibition to be launched this evening.

    The exhibition titled St Joseph’s Home, Neerkol, by Sunny Waldron and Julie Barratt, has been curated by CQU Art Collection Curator Deann Campbell in CQU’s Ron Smyth Building, 240 Quay Street, Rockhampton.

    A major Women in Research (WIR) conference to be held in Rockhampton will not only embrace input from men, but one of the main speakers is a prominent woman who has had personal experience with transsexualism.

    Members of the community are also welcome to attend the event, even on single-day registrations, and are especially welcome at the conference dinner.

  • Sexual offence results presented in Mackay

    Results of research comparing the outcomes of sexual offence cases finalised by courts with those of cases finalised through \'conferencing\' will be revealed at a state-wide forum being held in Mackay on November 10.

    The research was conducted in South Australia which is one of only two jurisdictions in the world where such cases are routinely referred to conference as an alternative to the formal criminal court system.
