Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    A function at CQU Rockhampton this week (Wednesday evening) heard that the power industry underpins Australia's prosperity and that a large portion of the nation's electricity comes from the Stanwell, Gladstone and Biloela triangle.

    The Power Engineering Alliance (PEA) networking function was focused on encouraging and nurturing new talent to support the future of the electricity industry.

  • No drips in Rocky with water consumption down

    With water conservation a hot topic in the Sunshine State, Central Queensland University Rockhampton has reduced its water consumption and saved the University thousands of dollars in water rates.

    CQU's Division of Facilities Management has reported initiatives started in 2003 and carried through 2006 have resulted in a reduction in the consumption of water by 29,300 megalitres and savings in the order of $78,000 to date.

    Peter has estimated banked donations and pledges to the Heart Foundation around the $2000 mark.

    CQU is helping to deepen Rockhampton's resource operations servicing sector through its role as co-presenter of the Queensland Resources Expo (QREX), from May 23-26.

    That is according to Event Director Rick Palmer who said the possibility of businesses servicing resource operations in Central Queensland locating themselves in Rockhampton will be realistically assessed.
