Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU 'takes notice' of rankings list

    CQU, like all universities, will be taking notice of an attempt (The Australian newspaper, P1, August 12) to rank institutions based on data submitted to the Federal Government, whether or not there is agreement on the methodology.

    That is according to Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard, responding to news that CQU had been ranked near the bottom of the list.

    CQU nursing lecturer Dolene Rossi was thrown into the deep end of online learning but has emerged inspired by its possibilities.

    Last Autumn, she took on 177 first-year, first-term nursing students from throughout Australia, enrolled to study Health Communications in an on-line environment for the first time - helping to pilot the use of Blackboard software within CQU.

  • Harbour gets second clean bill of health

    A second phase of research in Port Curtis recently conducted by the Coastal Cooperative Research Centre has determined that the harbour still remains relatively healthy.

    A recent presentation of results to industry, managers and stakeholders by the combined team from CSIRO and CQU indicated positive findings on the health of local waterways.

  • AUQA audit needs students

    The Quality Office is seeking expressions of interest from students within the CQ region to participate in the forthcoming audit of CQU to provide feedback on teaching and learning outcomes and processes.

    The Australian University Quality Agency (AUQA) audit is scheduled for October, and will involve face-to-face sessions with external auditors, who are assessing the quality of CQU facilities, programs and student experience.

  • 'Enough teachers to fill a school' to gather at Glenmore

    Hundreds of trainee teachers, current teachers and administrators from the public and private education sectors will gather at Glenmore High on Friday, September 9 (9am-2pm).

    The gathering will include around 200 trainee teachers (now referred to as ‘learning managers’) from the Faculty of Education and Creative Arts at Central Queensland University.

    Central Queensland University’s Associate Multimedia Lecturer Qing Huang has returned from the United States where he exhibited a short multimedia piece entitled 'The Way' at the 28th Asian American International Film Festival 2005.

    'The Way' adapts ancient Chinese art principles to create a new media art form.

    Central Queenslanders will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in other cultures at the Central Queensland Multicultural Fair and CQU Rockhampton Open Day this Sunday, August 14.

    Visitors will be able to learn how to put on a sari, tie a turban, play Indian-style cricket, learn to dance the Punjabi (Indian dance), learn Samoan dance and have the opportunity to get an African braid.
