Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Star fast-bowler Rowan Murray, from Gladstone, hopes to one day play cricket for Australia, but in the meantime he is covering all bases (or should I say wickets) and undertaking a traineeship as a draftsman at WorleyParsons and studying an Associate Degree of Engineering externally through Central Queensland University (CQU).

    CQU Rockhampton Language Centre has been commended for handling a rapid growth in candidates for the International English Language Testing System, known as IELTS.

    IELTS Australia reports the Rockhampton centre hosted 286 candidates during 2006 - a growth of 472% over 2005.

  • Student counsellors from 5 nations visit CQU Rockhampton

    As part of their ‘Real Australia' Universities 2007 activities, 5 IDP in-country counsellors from China, India, Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand visited CQU Rockhampton, on Wednesday, May 9.

    These counsellors recruit students to CQU annually and as part of the visit were briefed on current faculty programs available to international students.

  • Rockhampton hosts cycling talent-spotting day

    Rockhampton Cycling Club held a special talent-spotting day at CQU Rockhampton athletics oval on Saturday May 26.

    Participants were tested for their endurance, power, height and weight, with activities including vertical jumps, sprints and multi-stage fitness courses.

  • Industrial research scholarships available in Gladstone

    CQU's Process Engineering and Light Metals (PELM) Centre in Gladstone has opportunities available for postgraduate research students, both full-time and part-time.

    Scholarships of up to $35, 000 per annum tax-free are available for suitable candidates for a full or part-time PhD or Masters by Research.
