- CQU does not raise HECS fees

The Council of Central Queensland University announced last week that CQU would not increase HECS fees for 2005 – making it one of the few universities in Australia to-date to keep a lid on raising HECS charges.
The announcement has provoked favourable media coverage nationally and regionally.

Blair Athol Mine scholarship winner Jenna Brooks, formerly of Clermont State High, will undertake a Bachelor of Learning Management (Early Childhood) degree via CQU Mackay, according to the CQ News.
The Blair Athol Mine Leadership Scholarship, valued at $7500 for a three-year course, is awarded annually to a Year 12 student whose immediate family resides in the Clermont area.

A small stream of pioneering students from Seoul's Myongji University has already been successful in tackling a top-up Arts year, majoring in literature at Central Queensland University Rockhampton.

Maria Raciti (pictured), who moved from Mackay to Rockhampton in 1991 to study at Central Queensland University, was among eight researchers awarded a PhD from CQU during graduations on Friday and Saturday (March 5-6).
In those 13 years the former North Mackay High School student also earned a CQU Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree, received First Class Honours and was presented with Faculty scholarship and an Australian Postgraduate Award.
