Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU Nursing academics Kerry Reid-Searl, Dr Trudy Dwyer, Dr Lorna Moxham and Jacqueline Ryan are happy with student response to their 2006 book, 'Student Nurse Clinical Survival Guide'.

    Publisher Pearson Education Australia has reported strong demand for the book since it was published last year.

    The State Director Victoria of CQU's Melbourne International Campus, Associate Professor Ken Bruce presented a paper for the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB) Education Advisory Panel meeting in Seattle, USA on September 6-7.

    The FPSB manages, develops and operates certification, education and related programs for financial planning organisations so that they can benefit and protect the global community by establishing, upholding and promoting worldwide professional standards in personal financial planning.

  • CQU lecturer proud to win Queensland Multicultural Award

    CQU  Senior  lecturer Remadevi (Rema) Dhanasekar is the proud winner of a Queensland Multicultural Award in the individual category of 'Community Services'  for significantly promoting multiculturalism and developing harmonious community relations in Queensland in a voluntary capacity.

    The award was presented by Hon Lindy Nelson-Carr MP, Minister for Environment and Multiculturalism, at a special award ceremony in Brisbane on September 18.

  • Campus jams with not your average Bears

    Central Queensland University in conjunction with the Rockhampton Mental Health Promotion committee will present the band BiPolar Bears on the Rockhampton campus to celebrate Mental Health Week and the end of the university term on Friday October 5.

    The event will be staged on the Library Lawns from 2 to 4pm, where there will also be a sausage sizzle and a masseuse for staff and students.
