Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Year 4 and 5 students at St Peter's School in Rockhampton have been gearing up to complete a virtual walk of the Great Wall of China, as part of a CQUniversity research project.

    Students will wear a personal pedometer to measure the number of steps they take on a daily basis and will get the chance to add the statistics into an interactive website.

    CQUniversity Mackay had a role in supporting the first graduate from the University of Tasmania's Master of Contemporary Arts course offered by distance mode in Mackay: 53-year-old Ann Williams-Fitzgerald.

    The head of the UTAS School of Visual and Performing Art, Professor Vincent McGrath, said that Master of Contemporary Arts by distance mode had first been offered in 2007.

    In fact, the mechanical engineering (Co-op) student had already been allocated a rank and had gained work experience with the Navy's helicopter service.

    CQUniversity Australia and educational industry leaders had reason to celebrate recently with the launch of the new Graduate Diploma of Learning Management (Executive Leadership) available through CQUniversity, starting this July.

    The Graduate Diploma of Learning Management (Executive Leadership) was officially launched last month at a ceremony to thank and acknowledge industry partners who assisted in developing this innovative program.
