Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Aviation Technology develops new routes for SUN students

    Brisbane's home-schooled students came in droves recently to hear about how they could begin university study before completing year 12.

    CQUniversity's Promotions and Recruitment Officer Crystal Chopping and Aviation Technology Senior Lecturer Ron Bishop met with 70 families at 2 separate meetings in Brisbane over the past few months (the second meeting was just last week) to discuss the opportunities that are available through the University's Start Uni Now (SUN) program.

  • Mackay to host 'Responding to violence' course

    A nationally-accredited Course in Responding to Domestic and Family Violence will be delivered in Mackay on February 17, following the results of research on domestic violence in the Bowen Basin and Mackay region.

    The research, conducted by the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research, based at CQUniversity Mackay, confirmed that domestic violence is a significant issue in the region and highlighted the need for a wide range of professionals to have the knowledge and skills to assist those affected.

  • Research 'implanted' for French interns

    Two interns who arrived at CQUniversity from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Rennes in September last year have now said their farewells.

    They came to spend a formal and compulsory training component of their degree studies; to work side by side with active researchers.

  • Uni welcomes $643,978 for learning and teaching

    CQUniversity has welcomed news that it will receive $643,978 from the Federal Government for improvements made to its performance in 'learning and teaching', over the years from 2005 to 2007.

    The funding recognises sustained improvements across the University, based on criteria such as student retention and progression rates, as well as rates of student satisfaction.

  • Uni applications still being accepted

    Applications for Term 1 2009 are still being accepted for CQUniversity, as long as students send supporting documents to QTAC on the same day they apply through the QTAC online form.

    Students can still apply for external programs until February 13 and internal programs until February 22.
