Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Congratulations to Dr Kerry Reid-Searl who has been selected as a Deputy representative for the Simulated Learning Environments Expert Reference Group, part of the National Health Workforce Taskforce (NHWT).

    As Deputy, Dr Reid-Searl (from our Department of Health Innovation, based at Rockhampton) will support Patrick Crookes (from the University of Wollongong) and attend meetings if he is not available.

    CQUniversity and Rockhampton Cycling Club have literally 'signed up' for more success, with a joint revamp of the billboard on Berserker Street.

    The new signage recognises the University's sponsorship and also reinforces the name of the Kenrick Tucker Velodrome (originally named in 1978 to recognise his early success, which led to Commonwealth Games gold).

    Bundaberg's Ilee Sannholm and Emily Martin both left school at Year 11 but success with CQUniversity's STEPS* preparatory program has given them a fresh springboard for the future.

    The duo are among 61 Bundaberg STEPS students who will be able to progress to undergraduate degree study, either later this year or early next year.
