Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU researcher to join seismologists in Kuala Lumpur

    An interest in earthquake engineering and seismic monitoring has led CQU Adjunct Research Fellow Mike Turnbull to join a select group of seismologists who will participate in a seismic data management workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in October this year.

    Mr Turnbull is a research worker at CQU Gladstone's Process Engineering and Light Metals centre (PELM) and was recently awarded a full scholarship to attend the exclusive event.

  • Charity provides CQU PR students with real-world experience

    This year, CQU's Advanced Public Relations students have been put to the test with their first assignment involving the running of a real-life PR campaign for a local charity, Rockhampton Horse Riding for the Disabled Association (RHRDA).

    The students have been hard at work since the start of term planning and implementing a Wine and Cheese Evening for September 21 at Rockhampton Customs House, in an effort to raise awareness and gain much-needed funds for the RHRDA.

    Classically trained vocalist and violinist Kim Kirkman has taken the opera 'Tosca' down a very dark alley and smashed and grabbed its valuable melodies and chord progressions for what he calls a 'technopera', featuring house music and acid beats.

    Almost everything else about the original has been left bleeding in the gutter, including the fat, bloated 3-hour length.

  • Sports teams carry CQU name to finals

    Congratulations to sports teams which have proudly carried the CQU name in finals of rugby union, rugby league, soccer, hockey and AFL in recent weeks.

    These teams were previously affiliated with CQU Student Association but have kept their names despite reduced CQUSA involvement in the wake of VSU.

    CQU's Equity and Diversity Office recently awarded the Equity Computer Award to Sonia Bridgeman, a first-year Bachelor of Learning Management student at CQU Emerald.

    To be eligible for the award, students need to demonstrate difficulty in accessing reliable computers and have at least 2 years' academic study load remaining.
