Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Central Queensland University’s Institute for Sustainable Regional Development sponsored the workshop which was held at the Emerald Agricultural College and presented by soil scientist, Dr Pam Pittaway.

    Ms Cunningham is completing her Phd studies on investigating corporate environmental disclosure practices following the introduction of the Corporations Act and the National Pollutant Inventory.

    Central Queensland University hosts its an annual Discovery Day at the Rockhampton Campus providing high school students with the opportunity to investigate the University on a real “Working Day” and allow them to participate in a range of activities especially prepared for the occasion, all free of charge.

    Young people who are involved with community and put up their hand to volunteer are much less likely to have attempted suicide, according to research just released by Central Queensland University.

    Preliminary results presented at the State Conference of School Guidance Officers and Counsellors held at CQU Mackay indicated about 29 per cent of those who had not attempted suicide were volunteers on a committee.
