Minister for Public Works and Housing and Member for Rockhampton, Robert Schwarten, today announced the State Government will commit $312,000 over three years to support solar cell research at Central Queensland University.
Mr Schwarten, who presented the first $104,000 cheque this morning at the University to Professor Davies, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for (Academic and Research), said it was a worthy project aimed at reducing the environmental impacts of vehicles.

People from a range of cultures in the Central Queensland region are being encouraged to join the Parade of Nations at this year’s CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day.
As this year’s theme is “Multiculturalism in the Workplace” coordinator for the Multicultural Fair Gina Yarrow said she would encourage people from all nationalities to get involved.

Eight Central Queensland koala enthusiasts are heading north-west to cherish a look at the least studied koala in Australia.
Members of the Koala Research Centre, the CQ Koala Volunteer Group and a French research student will spend two weeks searching areas north of Longreach for the Thompson River Koala, stopping off at two key sites – Iona Station and Moorrynia National Park.

Central Queensland University athletes enjoyed a great week of sport and social activities, despite not tasting on field success at the 2003 Drinksmart Northern University Games in Brisbane last week.
CQU was outclassed by its southern cousins as Games co-host University of Queensland was crowned overall champions.

The successful Central Queensland Sports Medicine and Sports Science Conference held last weekend at CQU Rockhampton will become an annual event for the region.
Over 40 doctors, coaches, trainers and health students attended the inaugural event, with about 17 completing the Level II Sports Trainer program which kicked off the weekend of activities.

CQU's Dr Vicky Vicente-Beckett has recently been re-invited as a Research Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany) to undertake a two-month research visit at the University of Hannover’s Institute of Technical Chemistry, with the biotechnology research group of Professor Thomas Scheper.
This is her third research fellowship award from the Foundation.
