Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • STEPS graduates celebrate Rocky 'rollercoaster' ride

    One graduate described the Rockhampton STEPS program as a "rollercoaster ride" but all agreed it was a life-changing experience.

    Most of the 58 graduates who attended the preparatory studies program in Rockhampton were able to attend a celebration of their achievements on October 11.

    CQU Mackay celebrated an inspirational graduation of 40 STEPS (Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies) students, on Wednesday night in the Cook Lecture theatre.

    About 200 family and friends, distinguished guests, community members and staff of CQU helped the new graduates celebrate their milestone and wished them well in their further tertiary studies.

    Mackay students can now study the Bachelor of Creative Enterprise (BCE) degree at their local Central Queensland University campus.

    The degree gives students the chance to specialise in cross-disciplinary studies associated with the generation, application and exploitation of creative, ingenious and imaginative knowledge.

    The organisation will represent CQU in strengthening links with and supporting our graduates and will liaise with the University's Office of Development.

  • CQU again backs State's top track cycling carnival

    CQU has continued its association as naming-rights sponsor for Queensland's biggest track cycling carnival, the Rockhampton Cup on Wheels.

    The association started in 2004 in conjunction with an emerging talent identification relationship forged between CQU's School of Health and Human Performance and event host, the Rockhampton Cycling Club.

    CQU Executive Dean and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Elizabeth Taylor AO has been named among 'Australia's 25 Most Influential Female Engineers'.

    Professor Taylor is featured in the list compiled by 'The Magazine of Engineers Australia (Civil Edition)' and published this month (October, 2007).

    The Islamic festival Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrates the end of Ramadan, a month-long period in which Muslims fast between dawn and sunset.

  • Campus union rep recognised by Council of Unions

    CQU Rockhampton's Gillian Adams was recently among 17 women from 14 unions affiliated with the Queensland Council of Unions to be presented with a 10th Anniversary Emma Miller Award.

    The awards were presented during a dinner in Brisbane on Friday, October 5.
